Dance dogs in Chemnitz: The largest ballet class breaks world record!
What an exciting day in Chemnitz! On June 21, 2025, the cultural capital turned into a pulsating hotspot for dance enthusiasts from all generations. As part of the International Festival for Contemporary Dance Dance | Modern | Dance took place a Guinness World Record attempt that aimed at the largest and longest ballet class in the world. Under the direction of ballet director Sabrina Sadowska, several hundred participants sat down and danced for 47 minutes.
The event attracted around 1,050 dancers, from children in Tutu to seniors. Despite all efforts, the desired record of 1,600 participants remained unmatched. Nevertheless, Guinness World Records confirmed the new record for the longest dancing ballet class, which gave the participants a special feeling of the community. Together they transform the Neumarkt, Wall and the Düsseldorfer Platz into a lively dance stage, which was accompanied by a pianist.
creative community and art for everyone
The event was not just a game of numbers, but rather stood for lived participation and the connecting element of art. Participants and spectators were able to enjoy a creative community, which, despite the unreation of the great goal, brought together a broad and various movement of different age groups. Construction fences and barrier grid replaced the classic ballet rods, which gave the event a special note and expanded the space for skillful movements.
The festival itself runs until June 29th in various locations in Chemnitz and thus shows the wide range of contemporary dance formats. The venues are diverse: from the St. Markuskirche to the Hartmann factory to the picturesque meadow in front of the Janssen factory and the Brühl. A new, creative stage is opened again and again that captivates and inspires the audience.
