Dresden is preparing for the mega sports finals from July 31st to August 3rd!

In just a few weeks Dresden will be the scene of one of the most exciting sporting events of the year. The 2025 Finals, a multi-sport event that combines German championships in 18 disciplines, will take place from July 31st to August 3rd. This event will be held at a total of eight different sports venues in the city, such as radiodresden.de reported.

The event starts in a week and the anticipation is great. A colorfully decorated train from the Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe (DVB) runs through the city and draws attention to the finals. Board member Lars Seiffert said he was pleased with the advertising for the sporting event. Particular highlights are the competitions in disciplines such as athletics, basketball and climbing, which take place at renowned locations such as the Semperoper, the Joynext Arena and the Frauenkirche.

A sporting highlight against a historical backdrop

The 2025 finals are characterized by their diversity. Newly added sports include badminton, fistball, flag football, lacrosse, sports acrobatics and rugby sevens. Many competitions are even accessible without a ticket, which offers the opportunity to experience high-class sport up close. Tom Liebscher Lucz, a canoeist from Dresden, is preparing particularly intensively for the championships as family and friends will be supporting him on site.

The competitions are spread across several locations in the Ostra sports park. The JOYNEXT Arena hosts gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics, while the BallsportARENA offers space for fencing and badminton. In the team sports stadium, teams compete for the championship title in 7-a-side rugby, fistball and lacrosse. The athletics championships are planned for the Heinz Steyer Stadium, while the Neumarkt in front of the Frauenkirche will become the competition venue for 3×3 basketball and speed climbing.

A year full of sporting events

Dresden is not the only place that will be dedicated to sport in 2025. The year will be filled with a variety of sporting highlights, including the Handball Final4 in Cologne in April and the Champions League Final in Munich in May. Shortly before the finals begin, the European Beach Volleyball Championship will be taking place in Düsseldorf from July 30th to August 3rd.

Holding the finals is a big event for the city of Dresden. Mayor Dirk Hilbert emphasizes the importance of the investments for the city and is pleased about the increased visibility. ARD sports coordinator Axel Balkausky and ZDF program director Stefan Baur also emphasize the media platform that is offered to top German sport during the finals diefinals.de explained.

Athletes and experts agree: The 2025 Finals are not only a great opportunity for the participating sports, but also a significant boost for tourism in Dresden.
