Dresden dances and protests: Elbhangfest 2025 under hot skies!

Today, June 28, 2025, Dresden will once again be transformed into a radiant mainland, as the 32nd Elbhangfest is celebrating its big comeback. Despite high summer temperatures that almost reach 30 degrees, thousands of visitors have come to enjoy the diverse offerings and the cheerful atmosphere. Those who arrive by bus, bike or ferry will be rewarded with a colorful hustle and bustle along the picturesque Elbe.

This year's festival has the motto “Faith and the Grape” and extends across the districts of Loschwitz, Wachwitz, Niederpoyritz, Hosterwitz and Pillnitz. Venues are in gardens and squares on the banks along the Pillnitzer Landstrasse up to the beautiful Elbe terraces. Hundreds of stalls offering activities for all ages ensure no visitor is left behind. Offers such as yoga and breakdancing are particularly popular, while children in particular can let off steam with water walking.

Variety of events and attractions

This year's program includes more than 250 points and will be spiced up by the “Eure Freshness Crew” with a dance competition on Saturday afternoon. Around 250 artists perform in over 80 locations, including private gardens and church properties. Special features such as the evening opening of the Pillnitz Castle Park until 10 p.m. are very much appreciated by visitors. For the younger generation, Oliver Weickert sells refreshing soft ice cream, while other stands offer various types of ice cream and artistic ceramics.

Petersstrasse, one of the main areas, remains open to traffic - although with a speed limit of 30 km / h to ensure everyone's safety. These measures are part of the strict security requirements that are necessary due to current terrorist protection. Festival speaker Holger Friebel explains that the financial burden of the necessary security precautions in the high five-figure range represents a real challenge for the organizers.

Demonstration and social reactions

Despite the positive atmosphere, there are also critical voices. A demonstration against the high costs of security requirements is moving from the Loschwitz church to the town hall in Pillnitz at 2 p.m. today. Initiator Hans-Jürgen Burkhardt will use vehicles, satire and music to draw attention to the high levels of stress required to hold the festival. A supporter bracelet that can be purchased for 10 euros was also introduced, the proceeds of which go towards financing the entry-free festival.

The Elbhangfest season combines tradition and modernity, and despite the difficulties, the festivities bring many people together to celebrate culture and community. It is important that the streets are not closed this year, which should ensure accessibility for all festival visitors, even if safety is the top priority. The Elbhangfest remains not only a highlight of the season, but also a reflection of the social mood and the challenges that are faced.

Overall, the Elbhangfest 2025 is a sign of cohesion and joy of life in Dresden and an event that touches the hearts of many people.
