Dresden City Festival 2025: Traffic restrictions for a weekend full of fun!

From August 15th to 17th, 2025, Dresden will once again be dominated by the big city festival “Canaletto – The Dresden City Festival”. Preparations are in full swing and the city has its hands full dealing with the influx of guests. With a colorful program and many attractions, the festival is the perfect opportunity to experience the city in its full splendor.

Anyone wishing to attend the festival is recommended to travel by public transport. There will be numerous traffic restrictions and road closures in the city center. Theaterplatz is particularly affected: it will be closed from Monday, August 11th to Tuesday, August 19th. Restrictions also apply on Terrassenufer and Devrientstrasse from August 13th to August 18th. If you are traveling by car, you should consider the P+R parking spaces and use public transport. More detailed information can be found on the websites www.dresden.de/verkehrsbehinderungen and www.canaletto-fest.de.

Events and activities

The city festival will not only offer numerous culinary delicacies, but also a varied program with music, art and theater. Another highlight is the impressive Loschwitz Bridge, also known as the “Blue Wonder”. It has connected the districts of Loschwitz and Blasewitz since 1893 and is not only architecturally remarkable, but has also developed into an important landmark of Dresden. With its total length of 280 meters and a weight of 3,500 tons, it attracts many visitors every day.

The bridge is an engineering masterpiece, one of the first steel truss bridges to be built without supporting pillars. It was originally green, but today's perception as a “blue wonder” speaks for itself - this unique color scheme and striking design are a must for every visitor to Dresden. The bridge survived the difficult times of the war unscathed and is now a popular photo motif and symbol of the city, comparable to the famous Frauenkirche or the Golden Rider. The bridge therefore not only represents technological progress, but also the resilience of the city.

Arrival and traffic tips

To make travel easier, visitors should note that parking options are severely limited during the festival. The bus parking lot on Pieschener Allee will be closed from August 11th and the car parking lot on Ostra-Ufer will be closed until August 19th. It is therefore advisable to use the P+R parking spaces outside the city center to enjoy a stress-free celebration. The city has also provided a detailed themed city map, which is available at stadtplan.dresden.de and provides current information on traffic restrictions.

The “Canaletto – Dresden City Festival” promises to be an unforgettable experience for young and old. Let's look forward to a colorful hustle and bustle, impressive events and the opportunity to get to know Dresden from its best side. So let's get ready for a great celebration!
