Drone squadron in distress after forest fires – donations urgently needed!
The flames have flared up in Gohrischheide near Dresden and the emergency services are once again confronted with a large forest fire. On Monday afternoon, a difficult-to-access forest caught fire and the fire department had to act quickly. The fire, which broke out not far from the Dölzschen nudist air bath, initially covered around 100 square meters, but quickly spread to around 300 square meters. The emergency services, who arrived at the scene of the fire immediately after 12 p.m., noticed the heavy white-grey smoke as they drove away, which was visible from afar due to the wind. The smell of fire smoke was also clearly noticeable. In order to get the fire under control, the operations management divided the area into two sections and used numerous jet pipes and tank fire engines to prevent it from spreading further. Fortunately, this was successful and the situation was stabilized, as Sächsische.de reports.
But the challenge of forest fires is growing, and not just in the area around Dresden. Climate change is also affecting this country and increasing the risk of forest fires, especially in the sandy pine forests of Germany. Innovative technologies now play a central role in the fight against the flames. High technology is increasingly being used to fight forest fires from both the air and the ground. One promising project is FireSat, which is supported by Google. The use of satellites for real-time monitoring of forest fires is planned in order to detect fires larger than 5x5 meters. This technology will be further expanded until 2029, as n-tv.de explains.
Help for the drone squadron
Parallel to the firefighting, the drone squadron of the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) is facing urgent challenges. After the latest forest fire operation in Gohrischheide, it became clear that the volunteers' equipment was seriously damaged. From the batteries to the generators in the emergency vehicle and the cameras - many things have been affected by the extreme heat. Particularly critical is the defect in the air conditioning system in the emergency vehicle, which is crucial for cooling sensitive measuring devices. This was emphasized by squadron leader Stefan Riedel, who emphasized that the financial resources are not sufficient for the necessary major repairs. In order to support the drone squadron as quickly as possible, a fundraising campaign was started. Every euro counts in order to continue to help efficiently.
The donation account is addressed as follows:
- ASB-Regionalverband Dresden e.V.
- IBAN: DE92 3702 0500 0003 5867 00
- BIC: BFSWDE33XXX
- Bank: SozialBank
- Spendenzweck: Drohnenstaffel
The drone squadron relies on the support of the population. It finances its technology exclusively through donations and thus offers a valuable contribution to safety and firefighting in the region. So while the fire brigade is fighting the flames with utmost strength, technological support must also be ensured. Because in times of climate change, such voluntary initiatives are more important than ever.
