Literature festival in Dresden: Opening with best-selling author Erpenbeck!

The literary future is pitching its tent in Dresden! The “Literature Now” festival is entering its 17th round and will be located in the central factory from September 24th to 28th, 2025. The opening will be celebrated on Wednesday with a special reading by Jenny Erpenbeck, a renowned Booker Prize winner. Under the title “A Family, the GDR and Literature” it takes a look at German-German history.

Organizer Ludwig Lohmann emphasizes: “We attach particular importance to recent German-German history.” In addition to Erpenbeck, the authors Julia Schoch and Manja Präkels also ensure that the festival opens up numerous facets of contemporary literature to a broad audience. A total of around 50 authors are expected to take the stage.

Cultural diversity on stage

The program promises an exciting mix of readings, discussions and special events. More than 20 writers are presenting their new works, including Kristine Bilkau with her book “Halbinsel”, Thomas Melle, whose novel “Haus zur Sonne” is on the shortlist for the German Book Prize, and Joachim HarST and Raoul Schrott, who are presenting their latest projects.

The creative minds Daniela Danz and Nel Drogan are designing a poetry course that is already sold out in advance! The pop and poetry show with the artists Sookee and Afrob also promises to be a highlight. In addition, this brings Literature Now! e.V. program brings new formats into play to bring literature to life in all its facets.

A celebration for all generations

“Literatur FETZT!”, the children’s reading festival, is particularly exciting for the youngest children. A colorful program of readings, workshops and games is offered here. The children's program will also receive support from MDR KULTUR, which will be there with actor Raschid Daniel Sidgi. An absolute must for all children and young people! The MDR KULTUR literature construction vehicle will be present in the central factory from Friday and will provide interesting insights.

The last edition of the festival in 2024 attracted around 2,200 visitors who were able to discover new talent at 25 events. At that time, Martina Hefter won the German Book Prize for her work “Hey, good morning, how are you?” The Literature Now! -Festival has thus established itself as an integral part of the city's literary calendar and promotes contemporary literature in a variety of formats.

The pre-sales are already underway, and the exhibitors are saying: “There’s something going on!” Tickets for the opening are already completely sold out, but day tickets are still available. Don't miss this cultural highlight!
