Magical sounds in Wechselburg: a thrilling changing concert on July 27th!
On Sunday, July 27, 2025, music lovers in Wechselburg can expect a very special experience: the 3rd Wechselburg Organ Music. The walking concert begins at 4 p.m. in the impressive basilica, followed by a short, atmospheric walk to the newly inaugurated St. Otto Church. The focus is on the talented musicians Robert Hugo, an experienced organist, and Sebastian Krause, the trombonist of the MDR Symphony Orchestra Leipzig.
How Diocese of Dresden-Meißen reports, the program will open with a variety of organ and trombone music. A spiritual impulse from Benedictine Father Maurus Kraß on Psalm 121 will take listeners on a contemplative journey. After the musical part in the basilica, the path leads to St. Otto's Church, which was recently reopened after extensive restoration work. The parish's Schramm organ will be heard there, making an important contribution to the region's cultural landscape.
Admission is free and donations welcome
Entry to this extraordinary event is free of charge, which creates special opportunities for everyone interested. However, donations are warmly welcome to continue to support the cultural activities in Wechselburg. The event is based on a liturgical format and includes organ music, biblical texts as well as prayers and shared songs.
Since 2023, this concert series has been organized by the Protestant parish and the Wechselburg Monastery. Wechselburg organ music emphasizes that the cultural significance of the two churches also plays a central role. The series of events, which follows a classic concept, aims to provide spiritual entertainment and promote community life.
The protagonists of the evening
Robert Hugo, the organist, brings with him impressive references: among other things, he studied at the Prague Academy of Music and is a proven expert in Czech and Central European music of the 17th and 18th centuries. In recent years he has been active at several important institutions, including the Academy of Early Music in Brno.
His colleague Sebastian Krause has been solo trombonist of the MDR Symphony Orchestra since 1986 and has made a name for himself with his interpretation of original works for trombone. Both musicians already have experience with such special formats, which gives hope for a very entertaining and enriching evening.
Father Maurus Kraß, who will organize the spiritual part of the evening, has a variety of pastoral tasks and brings his personal experience and food for thought to the event. He has been prior of the Wechselburg Monastery since 2012 and will bless the guests with a final prayer of blessing.
The combination of music and spirituality will certainly attract many people; it is an opportunity to linger in beautiful surroundings and be inspired by the power of music. The organizers and participants are preparing for an audience of curious people and friends of traditional church music and invite everyone to take part.
The changing concert in Wechselburg shows once again that music can build bridges between people. For the region and beyond, this initiative is a valuable sign of community and cultural commitment.
