Saxony in sight: extremism endangers young people more and more!

The Protection of the Constitution in Saxony warns of a worrying increase in xenophobic crimes. The current report shows that the number of such offenses in 2024 reached a new maximum value with 983, while in 2023 it was still 712. These increasing numbers reflect an alarming trend that has increased in recent years. President Dirk Martin Christian emphasizes that the attraction of extremism on children and adolescents is of great importance. This situation could continue to exacerbate the rejuvenation of the right -wing extremist staff, which has now grown to 6,000 people in Saxony. This represents a doubling of the right -wing extremist potential compared to the past ten years, according to the constitutional protection report 2024.

The political landscape in Saxony is also tense. Christian describes the increase in votes of the AfD and the Free Saxons as a "shift in normal". Among the 18 to 21 year olds, an increasing normalization of right-wing extremism is determined. At the same time, an increase in crimes against political opponents is also pointed out, which is more than double compared to the previous year. Especially in the city of Leipzig, where most propagandaeles were recorded, the violence that is promoted by such extremist tendencies has been shown.

left -wing extremism and crimes in the region

Conversely, the autonomous scene in Leipzig, a well -known focus of left -wing extremism, recorded a decrease in violence last year. According to mdr.de , left-wing extremist offenses in the city have dropped by 43 percent and the number of violence even by 68 percent. This is attributed to the increased investigation and measures by the security authorities. In Dresden, on the other hand, there was an increase in left-wing extremist criminal and violent acts, including arson attacks on vehicles.

The Saxon Interior Minister Armin Schuster (CDU) plans to check the age limit for storing data in the intelligence services that are currently 14 years. In addition, he announced that he will strengthen the counterpart in the State Criminal Police Office and the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, especially against foreign intelligence services. Current tensions in the context of the Ukraine War require special vigilance towards Russian and Chinese news activities, which are seen as a threat to public order. The constitutional protection also emphasizes the role of disinformation campaigns as part of the hybrid warfare.

extremism among young people

The discussion about extremism and its influencing factors is supplemented by scientific considerations, such as that are presented in the publication "influencing factors of political extremism in adolescence" by Baier, Manzoni and Bergmann. In the publication, the difference between different forms of extremism, including right -wing extremism and left -wing extremism, is discussed. This research illustrates that extremism not only represents a security problem, but also brings in profound social challenges, especially in youth.

In this context, the topic of international extremism activities in Saxony remains relevant. In connection with the Middle East conflict, groups have formed in Leipzig that spread anti-Israel and anti-Semitic propaganda. The "delegitimization of the state" is propagated by around 200 people in Saxony. Such developments illustrate the complex challenges that Saxon society faces and the need for prevention and education measures.
