Shock in Dresden: Tram collision injures seven people!
A serious traffic accident caused a stir on Leipziger Straße in Dresden on October 15, 2025. At 10:20 a.m. there was a collision between two trams, in which a total of seven people were injured, including children. The affected vehicles were both traveling on line 9, which now had to temporarily stop operating. The accident occurred not far from the Elbcenter, on the newly installed Watzke switch, which was only replaced in the summer of 2025.
The injured, including a 60-year-old tram driver and a 59-year-old driver of the oncoming train, complained of pain in the head and limbs. It was a worrying situation as five inmates were also affected, including two children aged one and twelve. All the injured were immediately taken to nearby hospitals to receive necessary medical attention. The police traffic accident service has started investigating the exact cause of the accident, which is currently unknown.
Salvage work and traffic restrictions
The rescue work lasted until late in the evening. For the duration of the operation, Leipziger Straße was completely closed for around six hours, which led to significant traffic disruptions. A total of 22 special forces from the Albertstadt and Striesen fire and rescue stations were on duty. With regard to property damage, an amount of around 100,000 euros is assumed, which further underlines the dimension of the incident.
In connection with this incident, there was also information about another tram accident that occurred on October 14, 2025. Here, too, two trains were involved at the “Altpieschen” stop, resulting in six people, including children, being injured. In both cases, those affected complained of similar injuries and were also transported to hospitals.
Traffic accidents in general
Such incidents are not isolated. According to current statistics, around 2.5 million road traffic accidents occurred in Germany in 2024, with the numbers for accidents resulting in personal injuries remaining at the 1955 level. While the number of road deaths in Germany has been steadily reduced, there is still cause for concern, particularly in urban areas where accident rates are increasing. The challenge lies not only in the infrastructure, but also in the behavior of road users. The most common causes include insufficient distance, inadequate speed and driving under the influence of alcohol.
In summary, this traffic accident on Leipziger Straße is a sad example of the dangers in public transport. The situation raises questions about the safety of transport infrastructure and highlights the need to raise driver awareness and strengthen safety measures. The efforts of traffic experts to ensure that no more traffic deaths are allowed by 2050 with Vision Zero still require great effort.
