Fichtelberghaus sold: New investor wants to boost tourism!

Oberwiesenthal, Deutschland - The sale of the Fichtelberghaus in Oberwiesenthal takes concrete forms. In December 2022, the district council of the Erzgebirge district approved the sale of the building and a large part of the summit plateau. However, the change of ownership has not yet been fully carried out. The notarial sale of the Fichtelberghaus to Fichtelberghaus Invest GmbH has now been successfully completed. This company is based in Oberwiesenthal and has been the tenant of the Fichtelberghaus and owner of several attractions around Fichtelberg for a long time.

The purchase price for the Fichtelberghaus is 1.975 million euros. The district had taken the decision to sell the property due to the high renovation costs in the single -digit million range. The Gläß investor family undertakes to modernize the house within five years, otherwise there is a risk of a contractual penalty. The aim of the sale is to reduce the costs for the district and to boost tourism in Oberwiesenthal. Vice-District Administrator Andreas Stark (CDU) described the situation as a complex and emphasized the investment needs that the district itself cannot wear.

planning and challenges

The plans for the sale of the Fichtelberghaus began in 2022 when they decided to get offers. These should not only be submitted regionally, but beyond the borders. Interested parties have the opportunity to request documents by July 5, 2025. In autumn 2024, those responsible expect a vote in the district council on the final sale. Strongly emphasizes that private investors can act more flexibly than public administrations and still sees some risks when selling.

A central point in the discussion is also the concern that entry to the plateau may be required in the future. This considers this to be absurd and is convinced that the restaurant remains accessible. He referred to the difficult development at the Klínovec (Keilberg) in the Czech Republic as an example of potential complications that can occur in the course of sales.

The Fichtelberghaus in history

The Fichtelberghaus has an eventful history. The first wooden building was built in 1845, followed by a massive building in 1889, which housed a restaurant and a lookout tower. After a fire in 1963, a modern building with a 42 -meter -high observation tower was opened in 1967. In 1999 a new building took place in a historical style after the old house was demolished. The district had received the plateau and the building in 1996 for a symbolic price.

The current sale and the plans for modernizing the Fichtelberghaus are therefore in an important context for the future tourist orientation of the region. Rico Gebhardt, head of the left faction in the Saxon state parliament, is skeptical about the sale and indicates the cultural and tourist value of the Fichtelberghaus. He proposes the establishment of a management cooperative to secure the interests of the population.

The advancing developments around the Fichtelberghaus illustrate the great challenges and opportunities that arise for the region and those involved. The Erzgebirge district hopes not only to relieve finance, but also a new impulse for tourism.
