Construction work in rail traffic: trains between Hoyerswerda and Görlitz are canceled!

The RB64 railway line between Hoyerswerda and Görlitz is currently being significantly affected by construction work, which will lead to the cessation of train traffic until August 23rd and 24th, 2025. In order to support the affected travelers, a replacement bus service was set up, which departs every hour from Hoyerswerda (train station forecourt) at the 48th minute. The buses serve several stops, including Hoyerswerda-Neustadt, Lohsa, Uhyst, Klitten, Mücka and Petershain.

As LR Online reports, travelers also have to expect a longer travel time. While the regular journey from Hoyerswerda to Görlitz normally takes 53 minutes, this duration is extended to around 1.5 hours. In addition, passengers must expect corresponding changes in Niesky, where they can change to the trains.

Modernization and accessibility

There's a lot going on at the train station in Hoyerswerda these days. By 2027, the facility will be modernized and made barrier-free for a total of 21 million euros. This renovation includes the installation of new elevators on the platforms as well as the renovation of the platforms by DB InfraGo AG. Construction work began in April 2024 and will last until at least August 2025. During this time, one platform will always be closed and trains from Görlitz must arrive in Hoyerswerda about 10 minutes earlier and can leave the station about 10 minutes later.

Another important aspect is accessibility, which plays a central role not only for the train station, but for all public transport. The Public Transport Strategy 2030 stipulates that mobility offers are available to everyone, with accessibility being a continuous task along the entire travel chain. This also includes barrier-free access to stops and the equipment of the vehicles, which should offer parking spaces for wheelchairs, strollers and other mobility aids.

Timetable adjustments and student connections

Not only the passengers of the RB64 are affected by the construction work, but also various regional trains on the ODEG line. Some trains will run from Niesky instead of Görlitz. Connections to the buses on line 64 Niesky – Görlitz will be maintained in order to maintain mobility for all travelers. Student associations should also be offered without major changes. However, minor timetable adjustments are necessary and will be published promptly on the websites www.zvon.de and www.odeg.de.

The modernization measures at Hoyerswerda train station are part of a larger plan to promote accessibility in local public transport via the State Municipal Transport Financing Act (LGVFG), which covers 75% of eligible investment costs. The aim is to create an inclusive transport system that is accessible to everyone. Travel information is also made accessible to meet the needs of all passengers.
