Almost a million euros for Caritas: Cottbus conference center is being renovated!
In an important initiative to strengthen the social network in Lusatia, the Caritas Association of the Diocese of Görlitz has received almost one million euros from the European Regional Development Fund. These valuable funds, more precisely 940,000 euros, are earmarked for the renovation of the conference center in the Caritas Center St. Johannes in Cottbus. Brandenburg's Infrastructure Minister, Detlef Tabbert, announced this progress in Cottbus and emphasized the importance of this funding.
But what is the renovation all about? The aim of the funding is to create a central location for further training, advice and social participation, with supra-regional importance. The total cost of the project is around 1.5 million euros, with completion targeted by March 2027.
A future-oriented project
However, the upcoming renovation of the conference center is only part of a more comprehensive renovation of the Caritas location. In addition, measures such as the renovation of the remaining buildings as well as the construction of a new foyer and the redesign of the outdoor areas are planned. The aim of the advanced training academy is to create conference and meeting opportunities that contribute to securing, developing and recruiting skilled workers in social, educational, curative education and nursing professions.
But Caritas is more than just a regional initiative. Caritas' significant role extends across national borders, and it has a history that dates back to 1897, when the first Caritas was founded in Germany. Today Caritas Internationalis forms a confederation of over 160 members that is active worldwide.
Global connections and help
The organization, as on Caritas.us described, is inspired by the call to love God and neighbor and is dedicated to helping children in need, which is supported through sponsorship programs. In Uganda, for example, there are numerous child profiles, such as the healthy boy Victor Opio, who is cared for by his loving mother, or Ian, who lives with his siblings with his aunt after the loss of both parents. Such stories show the urgent plight that many children around the world find themselves in.
Caritas works at the grassroots level in almost every country in the world and is already on site when crises arise. The moral principles of dignity, justice, solidarity and responsibility guide their work sustainably. The organization is valued not only as an actor in emergency situations, but also as a developer of strategies to improve the living conditions of the marginalized.
Through such regional projects as the renovation in Cottbus and the commitment worldwide it is clear that the heart of Caritas is helping people to help themselves. It is remarkable how enthusiastically the organization works to shape a world based on justice and brotherly love. Caritas.org highlights that all national Caritas organizations are members of their regional networks and work in a common effort to improve the quality of life of those in need.
