Something is happening in the sushi sector in Görlitz! The city, which is characterized by its pretty old town, has experienced a real sushi boom in recent years. But not everything is going well: the popular sushi house on Klosterplatz has ceased operations after nine years. The closure was announced on Facebook without giving any further reasons. This surprises many, as the sushi house in the city was particularly well attended and was considered a popular destination for sushi fans. In its place, posters recommend the Susharnia restaurant at 25 Daszynskiego Street, which already has a good reputation and a particularly welcoming atmosphere.
The gastronomy scene in Görlitz is diverse: In addition to the sushi house, there are other establishments that offer fresh sushi variations. In February 2023, a Ukrainian opened his sushi bar on upper Elisabethstrasse and in March 2023 two Vietnamese opened a restaurant in the Theaterpassage. Tuan Vu Dang, the operator of the new sushi restaurant Taumii, is optimistic and sees potential to become even more famous. The operators Kamil and Bartek Tomaszewski have started a family business here that not only offers sushi, but also other Japanese dishes.
In contrast, the sushi bar Sato on Elisabethstraße has rather mediocre business, but enough to finance a living. Maksym Osmiatchenko, the owner, currently works alone and mainly offers take-out sushi. The small but fine restaurant only has three tables and is particularly busy on weekends.
