Ostsachsen on rails: Fusion of transport associations brings advantages!

Görlitz, Deutschland - In the transport system of Eastern axes, an exciting turn is scheduled! The Association of the Zweckverband Oberlausitz-Lower Silesia (zvon) to join. This project is aimed at a more comprehensive networking of local transport and should address both commuters and day trippers.

The backgrounds are complex: more and more Dresdeners are moving into the surrounding area, while employees often commute to Dresden. These developments require closer toothing not only in the transport sector, but also in the areas of economy, education and leisure. The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences as well as new educational locations in Hoyerswerda and Bautzen have already been heavily linked to Dresden universities.

advantages for passengers

The merger of Zvon and VVO brings some advantages. The approximately 1.5 million citizens of the region can in future benefit from special tariff special regulations, which significantly simplifies public transport. In the future, a new common tariff and a better coordinated transport offer are also being planned. This decision shows: Mobility is a central part of the quality of life and the business location, as well as the Saxon state government emphasized

The Free State of Saxony has a well-developed route and line network, which is organized by collaboration in five special-purpose associations within defined local transport areas. Both the infrastructure and innovative techniques are used. Since 2019 there have been nationwide bus offers such as Plusbus and clock bus, which above all improve mobility in rural areas.

A look into the future

The next steps have already been initiated, because until the end of the year there will be further resolutions in the committees of the VVO. Nothing changes for the passengers for the time being, but the plans for the new offers and tariffs are already on the way. The new joint association meeting will consist of representatives of cities such as Dresden, Görlitz, Bautzen, Meißen and the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Mountains.

The current development once again shows how important networking in public transport is. After all, mobility is not just a question of the location, but also crucial for the quality of life in the region. East Saxony is ready for future -proof mobility - this will continue to weld the region together.
