In the district of Meißen, on the other hand, the district license plate dominates MEI, which is significantly more represented with around 136,000 vehicles than the old license plates GRH, RIE and RG, which are used around 65,500 times. These numbers prove the preference of drivers for certain license plates and reflect their regional identity.

A decisive factor for this variety of license plates is the regulation that has been in the case of Germany since 2015: Drivers can keep their previous license plate when moving to another district. This regulation contributes to the fact that the license plate landscape in Saxony becomes more colorful and more diverse.

Another interesting statistics shows that in the district of Mittelachsen, in addition to the regional license plates, 101 Berliners (B), 57 Münchner (M) and 17 vehicles are on the road with the Hannover license plate H. This flexibility and freedom of choice with regard to the license plates lead not only to an increase in the home license plate, but also to a colorful mix of various approvals in road traffic.
