Chase in Görlitz: 58-year-old races into a shed with a stolen car!

On the night of September 20, 2025, Görlitz experienced a turbulent police scenario when a 58-year-old driver fled from police officers in a stolen car. The chase began because the driver did not signal when turning and did not respond to police attempts to stop. Instead of slowing down, the man accelerated and tried to escape until he eventually lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a woodshed. This is described by borkenerzeitung.de.

The situation escalated further when the driver tried to reverse out of the awkward situation after the impact and slightly rammed a police car. In total, the incident caused material damage of around 60,000 euros - an impressive amount for a night-time journey that did not go according to plan. According to mdr.de, the car the man was driving had previously been stolen in Hesse. Furthermore, he did not have a driver's license at the time of the check, nor was he allowed to do so because there was an outstanding arrest warrant against him.

A dangerous game with consequences

The police tactics proved necessary given the circumstances. When the officers tried to stop the man, he reacted by running away, endangering not only himself but also other road users. A breath alcohol test and blood test after his arrest revealed that the driver was under the influence of amphetamines. Such conditions are not only alarming, they also affect citizens' sense of security. This is in contrast to the general development of crime in Germany, as the Statista data shows: In 2024, the number of registered crimes fell by 1.7 percent to around 5.84 million. Nevertheless, acts of violence and sexual offenses represent a worrying trend and strain the public's sense of security.

The arrest of the 58-year-old man shows once again that the police in Germany are repeatedly confronted with criminal acts despite the overall decline in crime. While some crimes are declining, others are moving in a direction that is not good for society. In Görlitz this night will probably not be forgotten so quickly.
