Zittau sends athletics talent to German championships!

Görlitz, Deutschland - July 4, 2025 is an exciting day for the young athletes of the O-See Sports Association from Zittau. Sophia Heidrich (14) and Lucas Eifler (15) make their way to Ulm, where they will take part in the German Youth Championships. Her trainer, Matthias Aust, is there with a lot of expectation, because the norms for the qualification for these prestigious competitions are anything but easy.

Sophia has qualified over the 800 meters, her favorite discipline, in which she always impresses. With a best time of less than 2:20 minutes, which she achieved in Dresden on June 14, 2025, she proves that she is ready to face the challenges. The standard for the championships is 2:22 minutes, which it has already done. Lucas, on the other hand, has achieved his qualification over the shorter routes, 100 and 300 meters. Its best performance over 100 meters is 11.73 seconds, and over 300 meters it is also quick with 37.13 seconds. In order to be able to compete over 300 meters in the final of the top eight, it takes a time under 36 seconds.

Sophia Heidrich discovered her love for athletics early on, inspired by sports on TV. Since then she has been training regularly 3-4 times a week and takes part in a special funding course in her school. Her last competition, in which she was able to try tactically, were the state and central German championships that skillfully won.

for Lucas Eifler, who has been active for six years and trains at the O-See Association for four years, does not stop. In the Central German championships he became runner -up in the long jump, although he only scraped the qualification for the German championships by 3 cm - a very hard work for the young athlete.

The title fights take place this year for an exciting date. Sophia will start on Saturday at 3:15 p.m. in the semi-finals of her 800-meter race, the final will follow on Sunday at 2:50 p.m. Lucas, on the other hand, set his semi -finals over 300 meters for Saturday at 4:45 p.m., and the grand finale will take place on Sunday at 3:40 p.m. Other sprinters from the O-SeE club have also tried, but the relay qualification was briefly missed.

The German Athletics Youth Championship has a long tradition that goes back to 1937. Athletes under the age of 20 can participate, and special competitions for the U16 were introduced in 2014, which makes the current participation of Sophia and Lucas all the more important.
