Discover the melodies of Saxony: bus tour to historic organs!

In Saxony everything revolves around the very special fascination of organs. The Leipzig Tourism and Marketing GmbH invites you to a unique bus tour on October 25, 2025 under the title “Faszination Organ”. This event not only promises an impressive journey through the sound world of the region, but also deeper insights into the rich musical history of Saxony, which is home to around 2,500 organs.

The bus tour starts and ends at the famous St. Thomas Church in Leipzig and takes participants to three impressive organ locations: the town church of St. Marien in Torgau, the castle church in Torgau and the church in Trossin. With a total time frame of around eight hours, music and history lovers can immerse themselves in the world of organs.

An unforgettable day

The travel price of 89 euros per person includes comprehensive support, including the bus transfer, lunch in the “Schmidtalien” restaurant in Dommitzsch, church tours and organ playing. In addition, an afternoon snack ensures that participants are well fortified while they discover the special tonal characteristics of historical instruments. This day therefore promises not only a lot of knowledge, but also enjoyment.

Saxony has established itself as a true treasure trove of organ art. Famous organ builders, such as Gottfried Silbermann, created important works here that are still admired today. Particularly noteworthy are the well-preserved historical instruments from the 17th to 19th centuries, which visitors on the tour can get to know better. The region has its origins in late Gothic organ building and is now heavily influenced by the restorations and new buildings of the 20th century.

A cultural heritage

As the Wikipedia reports, Saxony is considered an important organ region in Germany, which is characterized by the work of great organ builders such as Silbermann, Kreutzbach and Ladegast. The oldest documented organs in the region date back to the 13th century. Built in important churches, they offer a unique insight into the history and development of organ building.

Baroque organ building represents the heyday in which many of today's treasures were created. Gottfried Silbermann built around 50 organs, 31 of which still exist today and are known for their outstanding craftsmanship. The preservation of this unique cultural heritage is still of great importance today, so numerous restoration projects have been launched.
