The summer holidays are in full swing and Leipzig Airport can look forward to a lot of activity. From November 1st, the direct connection to Tirana, the capital of Albania, will be canceled. This connection was only added to the program by the airline WizzAir in September 2024, which makes the surprising decision all the more questionable. However, the cancellation of the connection to Tirana does not mean the end of travel options from Leipzig Airport. The airport operators have added numerous new destinations to their offering. SunExpress has been cooperating with ElectraAirways since May and offers flights to Varna and Burgas in Bulgaria, which remain available. These destinations are very popular with travelers and offer not only beautiful beaches but also a variety of cultural experiences.
Although the connection to Tirana is paused, WizzAir has announced that it will offer the route three times a week again from the summer 2026 schedule. The hope for a return of the connection is reflected in the popularity of the flights so far and the diverse cultural offerings in Albania.
