Leipzig Trade Fair breaks record: sales of 114.7 million euros!

The Leipziger Messe group of companies achieved record results in 2024: with sales of 114.7 million euros, the company recorded impressive growth of 43 percent compared to the previous year. This fantastic result exceeds the figures from 2019 by 15 percent, which underlines the positive development of the trade fair industry in Leipzig. After all, an impressive 192 events took place last year, including 22 in-house trade fairs, 28 guest events and 142 congresses and events. Over 12,000 exhibitors and around 889,000 visitors – this shows that the Leipzig Trade Fair is very popular.

“The support of our shareholders, in particular the city of Leipzig and the state of Saxony, amounting to 7.8 million euros was crucial for our growth,” explains Managing Director Martin Buhl-Wagner. The positive trend was driven not least by internationalization, innovative formats and a strong commitment to sustainability. For example, a fan zone was set up at Augustusplatz for UEFA EURO 2024, which attracted more than 300,000 visitors, and there were numerous activities around the trade fair.

Internationalization and new formats

Leipziger Messe International GmbH (LMI) shone in 2024 with 48 projects in various countries, including the Kazakhstan Machinery Fair in Astana and the largest German guest country appearance in the last 25 years at the Thessaloniki International Fair. Managing director Markus Geisenberger emphasizes the strength and versatility of the portfolio and pursues ambitious goals: to be among the top 10 nationally and among the top 30 trade fair companies internationally.

Not only were records set in 2024; The focus on sustainability also sends a strong message. This can be seen, for example, in the introduction of an energy management system according to ISO 50001 and in the platinum certification according to Green Globe. After the first sustainability report for 2023, the topic is also covered in a specialist book that has just been published, which analyzes sustainable methods in trade fair concepts and highlights their ecological and economic advantages. Beck Shop has revealed the details in a new title that offers exciting insights into the industry.

Looking at the first half of 2025

The organizers have already recorded top-class events in the first half of 2025. These include the International German Gymnastics Festival, the European Gymnastics Championships and the 18th German Children and Youth Welfare Day. Public trade fairs such as PARTNER PFERD, HAUS-GARTEN-FREIZEIT and the Leipzig Book Fair also contributed to further strengthening the trade fair company.

The Leipzig Trade Fair has shown a very good hand in recent years and is optimistic about future developments.

Thanks to the determined work and extensive commitment in the areas of sustainability and internationalization, Leipzig could establish itself as one of the most important trade fair hotspots - both on a national and international level.
