Philipp Steeb shines with silver at the German youth championships!
The German youth championships in gymnastics took place as part of the International German Gymnastics Festival in Leipzig. At this important event, the best talents in the 17/18 age group competed against each other. Philipp Steeb and Kimi Köhnlein from TV Wetzgau convinced with strong performances and won a total of three medals. Her competition decided on two days in two sixth fights.
On the first day of the competition, both athletes had difficult moments to master. Both Steeb and Köhnlein experienced falls on the bar and had stand problems on the ground. Despite these setbacks, Steeb impressed with the highest rating on the jump, which he scored with 13.40 points, while Köhnlein received 13.10 points. After the first day, Steeb finished third with 71.95 points, while Köhnlein ran fifth with 69.70 points.

The second day of competition brought positive developments for both gymnasts. Steeb received 11.60 points for his performance, Köhnlein followed with 11.45 points. Steeb scored 11.80 points on the side horse, whereas Köhnlein was only able to book 7.70 points due to two falls. Ultimately, Köhnlein achieved seventh place in the championship ranking with a total of 136.50 points.
Phillip Steeb, on the other hand, secured the silver medal with 144.70 points and qualified for five device finals. Due to foot problems, however, he waived the finals on the ground and jump, where Köhnlein won bronze in the floor finals and only missed silver by 0.05 points. His further placements included fifth place in the rings, fourth place on the jump and sixth place on the bar.
Steeb, on the other hand, was able to reach fifth place on the side horse and won a silver medal on the bar with 12.20 points. Steeb injured the Tkatchev flight element at the bar, but luckily the exercise could not end seriously. State coach Jörg Schwaiger was positive about the achievements of the two gymnasts, despite the demanding competition conditions. TVW chief coach Paul Schneider was also satisfied with the medal yield and would like a quick recovery of the athletes for the Bundesliga home competition on June 7th.

The International German Gymnastics Festival 2025 is expected in Leipzig, where up to 100,000 participants from all over the world come together. The German Turner Association (DTB), as Germany's largest children's and youth association with over 1.8 million underage activists, has recognized the importance of sustainability and integrated into the planning of the event. Experts of the DTB and the responsible persons of the city of Leipzig work intensively on a strategy to take ecological and social aspects into account.
A sustainability team has developed concrete measures to analyze and reduce the ecological stress of the event. The gymnastics festival 2025 should thus offer a platform to link sustainability with sporting activities and to show the participants how every single responsibility for social and ecological challenges can take on.
Experts from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Security also support the integration of sustainable measures in sport. These initiatives are essential to leave a positive ecological footprint, not only during the gymnastics festival, but also for future events in the sports area.
