In today's top game in the Bundesliga, RB Leipzig won 2-0 against 1. FC Heidenheim and thus appeared more stable after the bitter 6-0 defeat against Bayern Munich. Over 40,000 enthusiastic fans gathered at the Red Bull Arena to watch their team turn the game into a deserved victory. Leipzig coach Ole Werner praised his team's “highly deserved victory”, while Heidenheim coach Frank Schmidt admitted defeat, despite an appealing game from his team.
After a rather hectic start, Leipzig only found their way into the game after about half an hour. In the 5th minute, Christoph Baumgartner failed with a good opportunity, but Heidenheim also had chances. Mathias Honsak had the best chance for the guests, whose volley was parried by Leipzig keeper Péter Gulácsi. The first goal came shortly after the break.
The goals of the game
Substitute Christoph Baumgartner gave Leipzig the lead in the 48th minute with a precise shot into the near corner. This action was the result of a clever pass from David Raum. In the 64th minute, Baumgartner had a chance to make it 2-0, but only hit the crossbar. Finally, it was Rômulo who ensured the final score in the 78th minute with an artful backheel goal after an interaction with Ridle Baku and Yan Diomande.
Baumgartner also earned player of the game honors after recording five shots and winning 14 tackles. Leipzig dominated the second half and gave Heidenheim little chance of getting back into the game. Heidenheim, who celebrated four wins in the last four away games, were noticeably harmless on offense today and have zero points after the second matchday.

RB Leipzig will face FSV Mainz 05 after the international break on September 13, 2025, while Heidenheim hosts Borussia Dortmund on the same day. The season is gaining momentum and the next games promise exciting duels.
