Magdeburg Senior Citizens' Circle: An unforgettable trip to Leipzig!

On September 4, 2025, the city of Leipzig was transformed into a destination of discovery for the Magdeburg-Stadtfeld senior citizen group. Under the motto “Project 2025”, the seniors went on an inspiring bus trip to the historic city. Particular focus was on the impressive Battle of the Nations Monument and the fascinating Leipzig Panometer. Organizing the trip through a travel agency ensured that participants could enjoy the amenities of a well-planned trip.

One of the highlights was climbing the upper platform of the Battle of the Nations Monument, which required a combination of an elevator and 167 steps. Among the brave climbers was the oldest member, 88-year-old Edith Schattka, who rose to the challenge. The monument, which is a monumental reminder of the Battle of the Nations of 1813, not only offers a historically charged space, but also a breathtaking view of the city.

A guided tour through Leipzig

After a strenuous climb, there was a guided city tour through Leipzig, which took place both on foot and by bus. This exploration tour was not only an opportunity to learn more about the city, but also an opportunity to exchange memories and experiences, especially through questions and facts about the city's attractions. The seniors' group helped to arouse the participants' interest by offering the opportunity to test their knowledge of Leipzig in a previously created crossword puzzle. As Nicola Döhnert, author of an informative article about the Battle of the Nations Memorial, mentions, there were exciting questions about the history and culture of the city, which the seniors were happy to answer.

Leipzig has a lot to offer, and the selection of excursion destinations is tailored to seniors in all weather conditions. These aspects are important to ensure that there is both fun and variety on the program, which many participants said was very valuable. After the city tour, the seniors also had the opportunity to stop off in one of Leipzig's cozy cafés or restaurants and end the day in a relaxed atmosphere.

Magnificent panometer and inspiring impressions

Another highlight of the day was the visit to the Panometer Leipzig, where the current exhibition “The Cathedral of Monet” appealed to the senses. Here the guests experienced an impressive panorama, which was accompanied by light and sound plays and visibly thrilled the participants. The senior group had already visited the Panometer before, which made the anticipation of the new exhibition even greater. The detailed impressions and the unique atmosphere made the return to Magdeburg a fulfilling end to the trip.

Overall, the participants were enthusiastic and inspired, which was clear from the many positive feedback they received upon their return. The project will continue next year, with new destinations and sights already planned for future excursions. The Magdeburg-Stadtfeld Senior Citizens' Circle will continue to celebrate the beautiful sides of life and create unforgettable memories.
