Festival of Diversity in Coswig: Celebrate 50 years of intercultural exchange!
An exciting festival will be celebrated in Coswig on Saturday, September 20th: The “Festival of Diversity” is taking place to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Intercultural Weeks. The event will take place from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at several locations, including the CVJM, the Bürgerpark and the Karrasburg Museum. The motto “For!” stands for making the cultural diversity in the city visible and promoting harmonious coexistence.
The diverse program at the CVJM includes numerous highlights. The mayor, Ms. Trommer, will welcome the guests with a warm welcome. Afterwards, visitors can expect a colorful stage program: the Ukrainian choir will perform as well as the talented dance group Lose Control. Sports performances such as the Capoeira presentation and the ArribaArtistik show with juggling and acrobatic numbers will also delight the audience. The event will be accompanied musically by the basement crew Annex and a DJ duo from the KJH Exile.
Participation offers for young and old
But the “Festival of Diversity” doesn’t just offer entertainment on stage. There are numerous hands-on activities for all age groups in the Bürgerpark. Here, visitors can, among other things, try out henna painting or enjoy tea tastings. Creative activities for children, such as craft stalls and face painting, are also offered. A highlight is the international buffet, which combines delicacies from all over the world.
The Karrasburg Museum will also be part of the celebrations. There is an exciting children's program and free entry to the special exhibition “Food Culture in the Middle Ages”. The youngest children can also get active by carving spoons.
Intercultural weeks in the Meißen district
The Intercultural Weeks in the Meißen district run from September 8th to October 6th, 2024 and focus on diversity and intercultural exchange, as interkulturwoche.de reports. Numerous events are planned during these weeks, including lectures, readings and dance performances. The motto is #newspaces, which is intended to promote dialogue and coexistence between different cultures.
The Intercultural Weeks have been taking place since 1975, an initiative that focuses on personal encounters and mutual understanding. Campaigns organized by over 600 cities and municipalities aim to break down prejudices and make immigrants visible as part of society. The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) comments on this in detail in its Intercultural Calendar 2024.
Events like this festival are important elements in our cultural coexistence and strengthen the local community - one more reason not to miss out on taking part!
