A grandiose celebration is coming up, because... Castle festival at the Albrechtsburg in Meißen are celebrating their 100th anniversary! From June 14th to 22nd, the historic setting of the Albrechtsburg Castle will be transformed into an open-air theater that will captivate visitors with a colorful range of cultural highlights.

The Albrechtsburg, which is almost 1,100 years old and is considered Germany's first castle, has an eventful history. The first performance of the mystery play “Everyman” in 1925 is particularly celebrated this year. Project manager Holger May emphasizes how important it is to celebrate the culture and history of the castle, especially because the city of Meißen has taken over the reins again after several decades.

Colorful program for every taste

The festival promises a mix of tradition and modernity, combining both sophisticated and entertaining elements. Several shows are already sold out, which shows how great the interest is in this historic event. The kick-off will be celebrated on June 14th at 8:30 p.m. with actor Philipp Hochmair and his band Elektrohand Gottes. The following day, Tom Pauls’ “Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be performed in collaboration with the Elblandphilharmonie.

  • 22.6.25, 18:00 Uhr: Neue Orgel – Großer Klang – Abschlusskonzert im Dom zu Meißen

The city of Meißen is only 27 kilometers away from Dresden and recommends various travel options, including the Elbe cycle path, which leads past the Burgberg.
