Art between the Elbe and sunlight: Steffen Gröbner inspires in Coswig
With his new exhibition, the open-air painter Steffen Gröbner brings a piece of his artistic roots back to Coswig. The exhibition opens in the Rödelhof on October 8, 2025 and is entitled “Romantic Landscapes”. Here Gröbner presents over 40 oil paintings that capture the unique landscape between Meißen and Coswig-Kötitz. This region is not only his home, but also the origin of many of his first painting motifs. Gröbner, who is known for working almost exclusively outdoors, expresses his deep connection to the local landscape in his works.
The aim of his painting is to capture the light and mood rather than offering a photographic representation of reality. “I want viewers to feel my images instead of just analyzing them,” he explains. Light plays a central role in his work. For Gröbner, the low sun in spring and autumn in particular represented a certain similarity to the wonderful lighting conditions of Italy. Despite the physical challenges that working outdoors brings, he remains focused because he finds the evening atmosphere to be truly magical.

A special highlight this year is the new “Meißen” Advent calendar, which is available alongside the already available “Castles and Palaces in Saxony” calendar.
Another exciting project is the recently announced exhibition in Kottmar. Art lovers can also look forward to the calendar for 2026, which has also already been published and available. For those who would like to delve deeper into the regional history, there is a limited brochure from the Hauboldmühle zu Oederan, which is available online at the Webmuseum Oederan or directly from the artist.
Overall, Gröbner's work not only reflects his personal connection to the landscape, but also invites viewers to discover the beauty of the region from a new perspective. Anyone interested in art and landscape will find a wonderful connection in these works - and visiting his exhibitions could prove to be a real pleasure.
