Meißen and Radebeul make record-breaking donations against cataracts!
The Christoffel Blind Mission (CBM) is committed to combating cataracts worldwide and receives support from Saxony. How Sächsische.de reports, the city of Meißen, with a total of 42,983 euros in donations for the past year, is one of the five cities with the highest per capita donations for the CBM in Saxony. This corresponds to an average amount of 1.48 euros per resident. Radebeul is also generous and takes fourth place in this ranking with 1.60 euros. Pirna is at the forefront with an average donation of 3.05 euros.
These tools are critical to preventing blindness from cataracts, which affects more than 17 million people worldwide. An operation that eliminates the clouding of the lens costs just 30 euros and can be carried out in about 15 minutes. However, this amount is unaffordable for many people in countries such as Africa, Asia or Latin America, which is why donations are even more important.
Need for help
The fate of Jesca, a five-year-old girl from Tanzania, shows the urgency of this support. Jesca used to be a happy child who was full of energy. But now she often sits quietly in her hut and has problems with her eyesight. The turning point in her life came when she fell into a thorn bush while playing and didn't see it in time. Her single mother has realized that something is wrong with her daughter's eyes and the chances of getting treatment are slim as she cannot afford the costs. Jesca dreams of being able to see again so that she can run, jump and go to school. But without the necessary help, this dream could remain unfulfilled.
The CBM initiative is strengthened by generous donations from cities such as Meißen and Radebeul, which can also have an international impact. The organization uses the funds to help people in poorer and medically underserved regions and to offer them a new perspective. CBM.at and CBM.de illustrate how important resources in the form of donations can make the difference between light and darkness.
It remains to be hoped that the people in Meißen and Radebeul will continue to demonstrate a good knack for donating and, with their help, will enable many others to live in light and joy of life.
