New green classroom in Coswig: Learning in nature starts!

A special chapter will soon be opened in the West primary school in Coswig: A new green classroom will be available from the coming school year. This innovative outdoor learning environment is intended to strengthen the connection to nature and promote the environmental awareness of the students. The old classroom construction had to be demolished due to structural defects, but a solution could quickly be found so that the students can learn outside when the weather was nice. This reports Diesachsen.de .

Behind this project is the committed support association of the West primary school, which has tirelessly campaigned for the new building. Through targeted donation campaigns and the collection of offers, it was possible to collect the necessary funds. Another thank you is due to the city of Coswig, which has covered half of the additional costs. In total, more than 10,000 euros flowed into this important project. Mayor Friederike Trommer expressed their thanks to everyone involved, especially to the support association and the building yard, for their great commitment.

Diverse funding from the association

The support association of the West primary school not only took care of the construction of the green classroom, but also many other projects that enrich school life. These include:

  • Support of the "moving school" through games and equipment.
  • supply for the physical well -being at annual school festivals.
  • class gifts for Christmas and Easter.
  • Financial support for final trips and project days.
  • Financing the elementary school planner (homework issue).

Such activities help to strengthen the sense of community and to make learning more attractive to the children. For example, a trip to the Leipzig Zoo was organized in 2023 to offer the students an eventful children's day.

Education for sustainable development

The new green classroom is not only an enrichment for school, but also fits in a larger context of education for sustainable development (BNE). Ginnhnine resorts and actions can receive awards that appreciate the commitment to environmental and sustainability formation. These prices have been awarded by the Federal Ministry of Education in cooperation with the German UNESCO Commission every two years since 2022. Interested parties can find more information about these programs and funding opportunities at the BNE-Portal

In view of the enormous importance of sustainability projects, the new classroom will not only act as a place of learning, but also as an important step towards a more environmentally conscious future for the students of the West primary school. It remains to be hoped that such innovative ideas will also be imitated in other schools and communities, because after all it is about the formation of our little ones - and it is important to all of us.
