Traffic chaos inevitable: A4 closures near Bautzen this week!

The A4 in the direction of Görlitz will be a test of patience for drivers in the next few days. In this context, it was announced today that there will be significant traffic restrictions on the motorway near Bautzen from Tuesday, August 11, 2025, up to and including Wednesday. The closures specifically affect the Bautzen-Ost and Bautzen-West junctions. The reason for the measures is necessary survey work that requires traffic to be interrupted. Diesachsen reports that traffic will be heavily rerouted on these days.

In detail, this means that the exit and entrance to the Bautzen-Ost junction will be closed on Tuesday. Drivers who want to exit in Bautzen-Ost will be redirected via the neighboring Bautzen-West and Weißenberg junction. However, if you want to take the motorway towards Görlitz, use the U2 on-demand diversion. On Wednesday the situation will be similar, but with changed closures: the exit and entrance to the Bautzen-West junction is affected. Here the traffic is again redirected via Bautzen-Ost, while those arriving also have to use the U2 detour if required.

More construction sites in November

But it's not just the closures mentioned that pose a challenge. From November 4th, 2024, drivers will also have to be prepared for several closures on the A4 in the direction of Görlitz, such as Saxon reports. These last until November 6th and are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. During this time, the fast lane between the Burkau junction and the Oberlausitz gas station and rest area remains closed due to marking work. The area between the Löbauer Wasser car park and the Weißenberg junction is also affected during the day, due to soil tests.

In addition, individual lanes are expected to be temporarily closed during the day between the Salzenforst and Bautzen-Ost junctions and in the area of the Bautzen-West junction between November 4th and 7th. The work on the drainage pipes also requires some restrictions. Nevertheless, traffic will be routed past the closed areas via the remaining lanes.

It is therefore advisable for commuters and travelers to prepare for alternative routes early on. A good hand in planning certainly can't hurt here. Keep up to date with current traffic conditions to reach your destination in a relaxed manner.
