With the citizens' allowance, which replaced unemployment benefit II and the social benefit at the beginning of 2023, people in need receive important financial support. Citizens' allowance ensures a decent livelihood for people who cannot cover their livelihood from their own incomes. Minister of Labor Hubertus Heil recently declared that the citizens' allowance will not be increased in 2025 because inflation has decreased. This measure is followed by an increase in remuneration at the beginning of 2024 by 12 percent.

The citizenship benefit is regularly transferred to the account on the first working day of a month, whereby the funds are already transferred at the end of the previous month. For the month of June 2025, the transfer will take place on Friday, May 30, 2025. It should be noted that the transfer days can move by one or two days. People without a bank account have the option of receiving their citizenship in the form of a check that can be redeemed at Deutsche Post or Postbank for cash, but this is associated with additional costs.

Details on the standard conditions

The amount of the citizens' allowance is based on various standard requirements that are regularly checked and adapted. From January 1, 2024, the following control rates apply:

Children and adolescents of standard requirements 3 to 6 also receive a child's excess surcharge of 20 euros per month. In addition to the regular -needs, the citizens' benefit also includes costs for accommodation and heating as well as additional needs for special living situations, such as in the case of single education or medical nutritional needs.

The citizen benefit is part of the state efforts to ensure a decent standard of living for everyone. It is aimed directly at employable people who, despite their efforts, do not find a job or who are not sufficient. The payment dates for the citizens' allowance in 2025 are determined, with January 2025 on December 31, 2024, February 31, 2025, March 28, 2025 and so on, up to December 28th, 2025.
