Centennial work on Freiberg hockey: A look back at 100 years!

Exciting news from Freiberg hockey circles! Tobias Seifert recently published a comprehensively researched commemorative publication that impressively documents the history of Freiberg hockey. This “project of the century” was launched on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Freiberg Hockey and Tennis Club (FHTC) and has been available in the club’s office since June 3rd, on Wednesdays from 4 p.m. The 320-page publication contains over 500 images and more than 80,000 words, which powerfully reflect the association's rich heritage. According to [freipresse.de](https://www.freipresse.de/sport/lokalsport/mittelsachsen/jahr Jahrhundertwerk-ist-Fertig-freiberger-hockeyfunktionaer-veroeffentlicht-buch-zum-100-vereinsgeburtstag-artikel13888765), Seifert, the 45-year-old long-time hockey player and current 2nd chairman of the FHTC, is the main author of this special publication.

The publication was originally planned for 2020, but the challenges of the corona pandemic delayed it. Seifert developed all the content himself, including layout, typesetting and pre-press, supported by two other authors. The club logos were vectorized by hand, which ensures a particularly authentic touch. The research included a variety of sources, including magazines, archives and even a guest book that is over 100 years old and brings stories about the club to life. Colored portraits of all honorary members complete the overall picture, as does a comprehensive tabular list of well-known selected players.

A piece of history and further insights

The focus of the commemorative publication is not only on the club itself, but also on the development of hockey as a whole. Hockey is considered one of the oldest sports in the world, with origins dating back to 4000 BC. BC. Early forms of the game originated in civilizations such as China, Persia and India, where physical effort and team spirit were required. The sport's international importance has steadily increased since the first hockey clubs were founded in England, such as the Hockey Association in London in 1886. Hockey has evolved over the years and is now a worldwide sport. You can find more interesting facts about the history of hockey at hockey100.de.

Seifert's book also sheds light on the fate of the hockey stadium on Fuchsmühlenweg and highlights connections to the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. The collaboration with Michael Düsing and contemporary witnesses such as Hans-Jürgen Rehberg is highlighted as extremely valuable. In addition, the commemorative publication represents a highlight in the club's valuable history, which is characterized by countless playing experiences.
