Mega closure from November: S 247 in Göritzhain will be renewed!
Drivers in Saxony have to prepare for diversions and closures. From November 3, 2025, the state road S 247 in Göritzhain will be completely closed due to extensive road renewal work. This affects the section between house numbers 40 and 48 on Obere Hauptstrasse and is expected to last until November 21, 2025 blick.de reported.
The total costs for this measure amount to around 40,000 euros, made possible by tax funds from the Free State of Saxony from the budget of the Saxon State Parliament. During construction work, traffic will be rerouted along the following routes:
- Nöbeln → K 8271 → Wechselburg
- Wechselburg → S 242 → Mutzscheroda
- Mutzscheroda → B 175 → Waldenburg
- Waldenburg → S 247 → Lunzenau → Göritzhain
In the opposite direction, the diversion takes place in the same way. The bus routes will also be adjusted, with replacement stops being set up in Göritzhain and Cossen. For example, the “Am Chemnitzberg” stop will be moved to “Am Kindergarten”, which will mean a change for many residents.
Further construction projects in the region
But this is not the only construction project affecting the region. At the same time, work on renewing the roadway on the S 274 in the Elsdorf district of Lunzenau begins around a week earlier on October 24, 2025. Here, road damage to the asphalt surface and, in some cases, the asphalt base layer is repaired. The work is divided into three sections and is intended to significantly improve road conditions, initially by July 2023 lasuv.sachsen.de confirmed.
These measures also include full closures and extensive diversions. The costs amount to approximately 918,000 euros, which are also financed by the Free State of Saxony and the Federal Republic of Germany. The measures are intended to increase traffic flow and safety on the roads in the long term.
Path to faster renovation
In order to make such construction projects even more efficient in the future, Saxony is planning an amendment to the law to simplify renovation processes. The aim is to enable the renovation of roads, bridges and retaining walls without the often lengthy planning approval procedures. Infrastructure Minister Regina Kraushaar (CDU) emphasizes that this could significantly accelerate many projects, such as Allgemeinebauzeitung.de reported.
With this amendment, the state government hopes to save time and resources while at the same time reducing bureaucratic hurdles. In addition, facilitation of the expansion of the digital infrastructure should also be promoted in order to promote modern communication networks along state and district roads.
Overall, there are exciting and challenging weeks ahead for road users in Saxony. Drivers and residents are asked to understand the restrictions and should prepare for the new traffic routes in good time.
