Water shortage: Pumps prohibit pumps until October!
Water shortage: Pumps prohibit pumps until October!
In the district of Central Saxony, a comprehensive ban on water with pumps from above -ground waters will apply from July 14, 2025. This ban, which is valid up to and including October 6, was issued in rivers and streams due to continuing low water levels. The situation is so precarious that numerous waters lead only small amounts of water. Therefore, responsible use of water is now more important than ever.
The general decree published on July 14 prohibits the removal of water by owners of water plots and residents. The only thing that is allowed to scoop with manual vessels is allowed if there is enough water in the water. In this way, plants and animals are to be protected in and around the waters that are already at risk from the low levels. The pumping could also severely impair water biological processes, which would further exacerbate the ecological situation.
background and effects
The persistent drought not only led to the reduction of the water levels, but also to a significant increase in usage conflicts, as the statistics of the Federal Environment Agency shows. In the project "Effect of climate change on water availability - adaptation to drought and drought in Germany" it becomes clear that water availability in Germany could in future be critical under the conditions of climate change. Therefore, the current measure is a step in the right direction to preserve ecological functions of the waters and avoid conflicts of use.
The lower water authority will monitor the ban and violations can be punished with considerable fines of up to 50,000 euros. Despite the ban, existing water law permits to remove water will initially keep their validity, but can be revoked at short notice. It is therefore advisable to regularly find out about current decisions and developments.
call for responsibility
The authority urges the population to use water responsibly. This applies not only to the removal of waters, but also the accumulation of water without official approval, which is also strictly prohibited. The current location suggests that we are all challenged to make our contribution to maintaining water resources. The responsible use of water is a joint task that affects the health of our ecosystems.
While we have to deal with the drought in the coming months, there is hope for a summer that brings us the necessary precipitation. This is the only way to restore the balance in our waters and remain the biodiversity in and around them.
