Future of Central Saxony: Risks and opportunities in the new Atlas!

In Central Saxony, the current future atlas of the forecasting company forecast shows that the district is slightly under pressure. The researchers believe that the region is confronted with some challenges, which is reflected in the placement in the ranking: with 307 ranked out of a total of 400 counties considered and independent cities, mid -saxony is rather mediocre. The ratings are based on several criteria, including demography, labor market, business and social situation and prosperity. The forecast loss of population is particularly striking: by 2040 a decline of 37,000 people is expected, which corresponds to 360 in the demographic evaluation, so Saechsische.de .

The situation on the job market is also tense. The unemployment rate has increased from 5.6% to 6.5%. The district is found in the last quarter of the rankings. In the economic sector, Central Saxony has at least increased by around 8% in gross domestic product per employee and reports a value of 69,689 euros in 2022. However, this is not enough to significantly improve the overall rating. In the category "competition and innovation", the district is 310 behind other regions.

social aspects and purchasing power

The social situation and prosperity better do the 149th place in comparison. The retail -relevant purchasing power is 6,882 euros per capita, which is below the nationwide average of 7,547 euros. In Saxony, a total of 10 out of 13 regions show future risks. Middle Saxony, on the other hand, has 309 relatives, despite the slight risks, who offer a solid basis.

In order to strengthen future potential, it is important to invest in education and innovation. However, demographic change makes great challenges necessary here. The proportion of young adults between the ages of 19 and 25 is just 10%. This makes the planning appear particularly critical regarding the future of the district.

commitment to generation projects

However,

voluntary commitment can also bring solutions. A positive initiative comes from the Saxon Generational Agency, which is awarded the Saxon Generations Award 2025 to appreciate projects and people who are devoted to cross-generational cooperation. The prize will be awarded on October 22, 2025 in the Burgtheater Bautzen as part of the 4th Saxon generation dialogue. A jury will select the winners. Cities and municipalities, but also associations and individuals, can submit suggestions, whereby the application deadline ends on August 15, 2025. A total of 15,000 euros in prize money are available, which should serve to promote generational projects. Details can be found on demography.sachsen.de .

The Central Saxony region has to master some challenges, but there are also positive approaches that aim to strengthen the community and rely on the upcoming generation. Perhaps there is the right hand to promote the talents in the region and work together on a sustainable strategy.
