Bison festival in Wermsdorf: Thousands celebrate at 29 degrees and Western flair!

The annual bison festival took place in Wermsdorf last weekend - and that with pleasantly warm 29 degrees in the shade. A visitor magnet when you look at the several thousand guests who have set off to experience the largest bison herd of Saxony up close. The event not only offered a colorful supporting program, but also the possibility for a small journey through time into the world of trappers and nature closeness.

Pauline Klee and her three friends, who appeared in the right western clothing, were also among the celebrations. On site, Simone Kubovy heads a trapper camp, where visitors were able to determine various skins, among other things. In addition, Sabine Kubovy ensured educational work with the sale of historically significant animal skins. One of the highlights was washing gold - whether for children or adults, patience was needed here to find the small treasures.

Culinary delights and entertainment

The culinary delight was not neglected either. Tasty bison sausage was offered at a grill stand, which was not only very popular with meat lovers. In order to be able to fully enjoy the bison festival, guests had the opportunity to exchange their euros in bisontal to pay at the different stands. More than 40 traders and direct marketers were present on the farmers' market, which specialized in bison meat and advertised their goods, while the festive country music of the Roadbrothers created the right mood.

Another highlight was the opportunity to watch the bison herd up close on Kremser tours. This consists of around 65 animals, including nine young animals, who live in the pasture all year round under the care of bison breeders Johannes Boos and are fed exclusively with hay. The largest animal in the herd, the breeding bull Hakan, brings it to almost a bin. Bison meat is considered a sought -after specialty, and so an attempt is made to utilize as many parts of the animal - be it skins for drums or tendons for bow construction.

A look at the bison herd

The visitors not only had fun, they also learned a lot about the impressive bison herd. Bison are the largest land mammals in Europe and North America, recognizable by their characteristic shoulder hump and the shaggy fur. These animals live in complex social structures and show ranks during the Brunft time. The breeding of the young animals was also very well received, as females gave birth to a calf after about nine months of cage, which is later suckled between six months and one year.

The event was not only a celebration of the bison culture, but also a valuable opportunity for all participants to get to know the importance of this majestic animal and its products up close.
