Mergers and withdrawals: North Saxony League remains exciting in the new season!
In the world of football, a lot is happening in the North Saxon Football Association (NFV) for the new season. On July 4, 2025, the association announced the divisions for the North Saxony League and the East and West district leagues. The reporting of syndicates is a central point that affects both sporting events and the structure of the leagues.
How lvz.de reported, the reserves of SC Hartenfels Torgau will merge with the reserves of TSV 1862 Schildau and VfB Kobershain 1992 to form a new syndicate. This competes in the East relay with eleven players and replaces SV Süptitz, which has withdrawn its first men's team from the North Saxony League.
Restructuring and changes
Another significant change is on the horizon: the Schirmenitz/Strehla II syndicate will no longer exist in the coming district league season. At the same time, the Oschatz II/Dahlen II syndicate and FC Terpitz use the “Norwegian model”. This model allows teams with different numbers of players to compete against each other - an important issue in today's world, when demographic changes and changing leisure behavior are increasingly influencing sport.
The Norwegian model has established itself as a flexible solution. Normally two teams with eleven players each play against each other, but the ability to set your own number of players means smaller teams can also take part in the competition. This regulation is particularly effective in the youth and women's areas, but is also increasingly being used by men's teams in lower classes.
Cup and new teams
Another highlight of the season is the TZ Bear Cup, in which a total of 52 teams take part, including eleven veteran teams. There will be exciting encounters in the draw for the first cup round on August 9th and 10th, and some teams can even look forward to a bye. The first round will be drawn on July 11th in Doberschütz and the second round on August 16th at SV Naundorf.
What is particularly interesting is that the cup team strength of eleven players does not require the use of the Norwegian model. Normally, such flexibilities are only common in league and cup competitions, where player numbers can vary. This level of play ensures that despite there being fewer players available, as is often the case in younger age groups, no one has to miss out on the fun of football.
At a time when many clubs are fighting for their existence, the North Saxony Football Association strives to maintain competitiveness while breaking new ground. It remains to be seen how the changes will be received in the new season - football in Northern Saxony moves with the times and remains exciting!
