a rich program and cultural highlights
The participants have to prepare at least five German -language arias and ten art songs in order to start the daily musical challenge. The diversity of the venues that underline the historic flair Torgaus is also interesting. In addition to the beautiful Hartenfels Castle, where the academy has its headquarters, the town hall, the Johann-Walter-Gymnasium and various churches as well as the city library are also used.
A special highlight are the daily lunch concerts that take place at 12 p.m. in the castle courtyard. In bad weather, the large hall is given. The opening concert on July 12th at 6 p.m. in the Johann-Walter-Gymnasium is the start of the event. Here visitors can look forward to an impressive musical experience that extends throughout the week.
cultural heritage and future talents
The importance of Torgaus for music history becomes particularly clear when you consider that the city was not only connected to famous personalities such as Martin Luther and Johann Walter, but also the setting for the premiere of the first German opera, "Dafne". This took place in 1627 in Hartenfels Castle, which is still an important reference for the academy today. The connection to the history is strengthened by participating top -class lecturers, including chamber singer Ricarda Merbeth.
The academy also has an exciting tradition with the performance of "Dafne", which took place on June 4 at Hartenfels Castle and was presented as part of the celebrations for the 1050th anniversary of the city of Torgau. Under the direction of Prof. Elvira Dreßen, the project was a cooperation between the foundation and the Leipzig University of Music and Theater. The focus was on stars such as Carmen Boatella and Nils Bütinette, who got to know each other at the Singer Academy and are now married.
The events of the singer academy are not only a must for music lovers, but also an excellent opportunity for the participants to present their talent in front of a wide audience, while at the same time the musical legacy of Torgaus is recognized. Participation cards for all events are available for 60 euros, while individual tickets cost 15 euros. The promotional prices of the academy, which are spent in the final concert, are endowed with 500 euros and are recognition of the commitment and talent of the participants.
