Students from Mockrehna rock the IHK competition and win prizes!

What is happening in the Torgau region? A colorful bouquet of events and news characterizes local events. On July 3, 2025, we can look back on numerous successes and events that concern people here.

An outstanding award goes to the Mockrehna secondary school. As the Torgauer Zeitung reports, all three ninth graders achieved excellent results in the IHK “Best Ninth” competition. Class 9c was particularly impressive with its project on children's rights, self-protection and internet safety, which it realized in collaboration with the Pumphut primary school and external specialists. This social initiative received first place and 1,500 euros in prize money. Second place and 1200 euros went to class 9a, which organized an Easter party for seniors and collected an impressive 450 euros for the “Wolfsträne” association. Not to forget class 9b, which won fourth place and 600 euros with a creative project to beautify the grounds of the Ireen dance club in Torgau.

Cultural highlights in Torgau

Both young and old can look forward to the “In Flamme Open Air 2025” festival, which will take place in Torgau from July 10th to 12th. With the festival wristband, visitors not only gain access to the music experiences, but also to cultural institutions in the city - an offer like this cannot be missed. These include, for example, free admission to permanent exhibitions and the special show “Fairytales” in Hartenfels Castle, as well as a free tour of the remarkable exhibition “Courage and Powerlessness” in the Torgau memorial site.

Another cultural highlight is the International Saxon Singer Academy, which will be in Torgau from July 12th to 20th. A magical experience awaits visitors here with free lunchtime concerts in the picturesque courtyard of Hartenfels Castle.

Vocational training and prospects

When it comes to career orientation, Mockrehna High School takes important steps to prepare students for the world of work. The path leads via the career choice pass, which is used in grades 7 to 10. Every year, representatives from the career information center visit the eighth and ninth graders to provide information about apprenticeships. The school also offers the opportunity to take part in a career information fair, where regional companies present their careers and even have their own trainees. This is a great opportunity for young people to gain initial insights into various apprenticeships. Individual internship offers are also available for interested students.

A future-oriented topic will also be discussed at the 9th specialist day in the Krostitzer Brewery. Around 100 specialists from schools and companies meet to discuss new ways of career guidance. Under the motto “Rethinking education – visions and illusions”, the focus is on best practice examples from the schools in Taucha and Bad Düben. The exchange about current challenges and opportunities in training is of great importance.

Health and community

There are also new developments in the health sector: a self-help group for people with Parkinson's is being founded in Eilenburg. It offers exchange, support and practical tips – a big step for those affected and their relatives.

For everyone who is enthusiastic about colorful events, the soap box race “Tour de Bergstrasse” in Süptitz is on the program on August 23rd. This event is organized by the local Teichminze association and promises fun for the whole family.

Finally, it should be mentioned that the citizens of Beilrode are invited to submit suggestions for naming the new ring road. In this way, the community is actively involved in shaping its environment.

In summary, it shows that the region can come up with many creative ideas and initiatives. Whether it's educational support, cultural highlights or social offerings - there's something for everyone here. To stay well informed, it's worth taking a look at the regular reports Torgauer newspaper and the Page of the Mockrehna secondary school. The diversity of information is also in the EconStor database to find.
