The weekend in the small Saxon town of Sebnitz turned out to be a real feast for the senses. Tens of thousands of visitors celebrated the 30th Day of the Saxons, which culminated in a magnificent parade. In bright sunshine and mid-summer temperatures, the parade marched through the streets with around 1,800 participants, which brought the organizers to a satisfactory result. This Saxony reports that the event on Sunday, September 7, 2025, was the highlight of the festival, where around 90 pictures, twelve marching bands and numerous floats and historical vehicles could be admired.
The festivities began on Friday when the city of Sebnitz invited people to the official opening on the market square. Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer and State Parliament President Alexander Dierks were there, and the mood was high from the start. There were several traffic closures to ensure the festival ran smoothly, but these did not cause any significant problems.
A celebration of togetherness
Under the motto “Here’s to blossoming experiences!” the anniversary became a celebration of the community. The mayors of Sebnitz and Dolní Poustevna symbolically crossed the border on Saturday evening, which confirmed the cross-border friendship. The festival was ceremoniously opened on Sunday morning with an ecumenical service on the market square. The churches were there with their own program, which gave the festival a spiritual framework.
Another highlight was the live broadcast of the parade by MDR, which met with great interest. The police were able to consistently report that the event was peaceful. Security was high as an inner and outer perimeter was set up to ensure smooth operations. Only authorized vehicles were allowed to drive within these zones.

In a referendum, 64 percent of Sebnitz residents voted in favor of reapplying for the folk festival, which reflects the enthusiasm of the citizens and shows that the Day of the Saxons is a matter of the heart for many.
