Altenberg shines: Christmas tree and festive market are ready!

Christmas is just around the corner and Altenberg is feeling festive! On November 12, 2025, a magnificent Christmas tree was placed on the station forecourt. The approximately ten meter high spruce tree, which was felled on private Geisinger property, will be the centerpiece of this year's Christmas market, which will be ceremoniously opened on December 13th. The Christmas market is organized by the fire department association and offers traditional flair that will put visitors in the holiday spirit Saxon reported.

A special highlight will be the cookie competition, in which the new cookie king or queen will be chosen. Hobby bakers have the opportunity to hand in their Christmas creations with almonds or marzipan at the Altenberg Tourist Information Center until December 8th. A jury will meet on December 10th to taste the baked masterpieces and make their decisions.

Bring tradition and celebration to life

The Christmas market will not only offer culinary delicacies, but also a diverse supporting program. Various traders and Altenberg clubs await numerous visitors at the station forecourt. In addition to handmade gifts and Christmas delicacies, guests can also look forward to performances by children from the Altenberg daycare center, who will present a small Christmas program on December 13th at 1:30 p.m Elbelabe holds on.

At 2 p.m., a huge Stollen from the Braun Bakery will be brought to the celebration in a horse-drawn carriage and then cut. The Altenberg elementary school choir will provide musical entertainment at 3:00 p.m. and the LaurentSingers Dresden Gospel Choir at 4:00 p.m. A lantern parade with the Altenberg youth fire brigade at 5 p.m. will certainly also create a festive atmosphere. The award ceremony for the cookie queen or king will take place at 6:00 p.m., followed by atmospheric Christmas music with the Liebenau/Fürstenwalde brass choir at 6:30 p.m.

The shops along Dippoldiswalder Straße and Rathausstraße will also open their doors during the Christmas market and invite you to stroll through the festively decorated streets. Santa Claus will be on the way and make children's eyes shine. Particularly noteworthy is the “Christmas Magic” offer in the Sportcollection Altenberg, which includes a mulled wine tasting and a laser biathlon. A small Christmas market with a shuttle service from the train station will be set up in the Raupennest health center.
