Construction work: S-Bahn S1 between Bad Schandau and Schöna is canceled!

Current developments on the S1 S-Bahn line are providing a significant boost to the conversation among passengers in the region. From June 29, 2025, passengers will have severely limited travel options due to extensive construction work between Bad Schandau and Schöna. As the Saxon reported, all S1 trains on the Bad Schandau to Schöna section will be completely eliminated by mid-December 2025. These measures are part of a comprehensive modernization that has been running since 2014 and aims to make train traffic between Dresden and Prague more flexible and efficient.

The current construction phase is accompanied by several full closures of the route, which also affect long-distance traffic. Between June 29 and July 4, 2025, these restrictions will be particularly noticeable when trains on the Hamburg-Berlin-Dresden-Prague line are rerouted or canceled entirely. Travelers will have to look for new alternatives as the direct connection from Hamburg or Berlin to Prague will not be available.

Replacement transport and special features

For the duration of the construction work, replacement transport in the form of buses will be set up to run between Dresden and Usti nad Labem. In addition, passengers can use the ferry on the section with their VVO and Germany ticket, which represents a small ray of hope in the tense traffic situation.

The construction work is also planning further closures in long-distance traffic for the periods from September 19th to 26th, October 26th to November 8th and November 13th to 16th. During this time, it is advisable to consult the current timetable information before traveling to avoid unpleasant surprises.

News about other S-Bahn lines

But it's not just the S1 that is affected. As the S-Bahn Berlin announced, there will also be construction work and timetable changes on other lines, which will soon be implemented. This applies, for example, to the sections between Teltow Stadt and Lankwitz and between Gesundbrunnen and Nordbahnhof, where there will also be replacement bus services. Travelers should also prepare well for the changes here.

To ensure a smooth flow of traffic, public transport companies such as VBB and the ODEG has put in place plans to guide travelers through the upcoming changes. Passengers are encouraged to use the timetable information intensively in order to find the best connections and get to their destination on time.

The coming months will bring change, and it remains to be hoped that the new construction projects will ultimately bring the desired success and significantly improve driving operations. Stay informed and adjust your travel plans accordingly!
