Dramatic accidents and thefts: Police warn of crime in Pirna!

A series of incidents and traffic accidents were reported in the Saxon Switzerland-Oster Ore Mountains district on June 20, 2025, which attracted the attention of the police and the public. The high number of traffic accidents and associated injuries shows how important public safety issues are in the region.

Particularly alarming is an incident in Bad Schandau, where a 26-year-old suspected car thief fled from the police in a stolen Opel Movano. The exciting chase ended in an accident that required the use of a helicopter. The vehicle had previously been stolen in Dresden, which makes the situation even more explosive. In another incident in Wilsdruff, a 16-year-old moped driver was seriously injured when a Mercedes driver collided with her while turning and took her to hospital. According to reports in the Sächsische Zeitung, there was also a serious accident in Dürrröhrsdorf-Dittersbach on Thursday evening: A 17-year-old moped driver was hit by a bus driver and suffered serious injuries.

Traffic accidents and drunk driving

The traffic situation shows worrying trends. There were around 2.5 million road traffic accidents nationwide in 2023, with property damage primarily occurring. A look at the statistics shows that 15,700 accidents were caused by alcohol, resulting in 193 deaths. The reports also draw attention to the influence of drunk driving in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district. A 40-year-old cyclist in Pirna was seriously injured with a blood alcohol level of over 3 per mille and a 37-year-old cyclist was stopped and had to have his alcohol taken in a blood sample.

The critical situation was made clear by another accident near Liebstadt, where two cyclists were slightly injured after a 24-year-old drove into the man in front of them. Such incidents bring to mind the clear goal of “Vision Zero”, which states that there should be no more traffic deaths by 2050.

Crime in focus

Apart from the traffic accidents, theft crimes in the region cannot be ignored. In Tharandt, copper pipes worth around 20,000 euros were stolen from a construction site. In Heidenau, unknown people tried to steal a mobile home between June 5th and 19th, but failed. There were numerous reports of break-ins, such as at a daycare center in Heidenau, where electronic devices and food were stolen.

The conflation of road safety and crime is worrying. Police have made several arrests in recent days, including a 37-year-old who was arrested at the border for forging documents. Such arrests show that the security situation must be kept under control.

Residents are urged to be vigilant and to contact local authorities if they have any questions or information. The local police report is an important indicator of safety and quality of life in the area and shows that a strong sense of security can be maintained despite the numerous incidents.
