Green awakening: New regional association founded for Saxon Switzerland!

A new regional player has emerged in picturesque Saxon Switzerland. Members of Alliance 90/The Greens launched a new regional association on July 15, 2025, which will take care of the concerns and challenges of the region. With this step, the Greens want to better represent the increased number of members in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district association, strengthen exchange among each other and increase political effectiveness on site. The founding is accompanied by a clear commitment to environmental and nature conservation, which is particularly important in this unique setting.

The new regional association will be led by Lucia Bellora-Bienengräber, a 42-year-old professor from Neustadt, and Paul Löser, a 24-year-old trainee teacher from Sebnitz. Both, who have been active in their respective communities for several years, have set themselves the goal of aligning the political priorities in accordance with the Saxon Switzerland National Park.

Saxon Switzerland National Park: A valuable natural heritage

The Saxon Switzerland National Park, the only national park in Saxony and one of the smallest in Germany, is a true jewel in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. With an area of 9,350 hectares, it is home to a variety of flora and fauna and attracts numerous nature lovers and active holidaymakers every year. The region is known for its majestic table mountains, deep valleys and a well-marked hiking trail network of over 400 kilometers. Many viewpoints and narrow gorges offer an unforgettable experience in nature, and the Bohemian Switzerland National Park also offers a wonderful backdrop on the Czech side.

As gruene-sachsen.de reports, the park has been a successful model in nature conservation for 35 years. However, those responsible are faced with challenges: Balancing tourism, the needs of local residents and the necessary protection of nature is not always easy. The Greens are committed to ensuring that the protected status of the national park is fully supported. This requirement is particularly interesting in view of the growing number of guests and the associated conflicts.

Commitment to rural communities

The new regional association also has the preservation of small towns and villages in mind. Topics such as bus connections, healthcare and climate adaptation are on the agenda. The communities that will now be brought together under the new association include Bad Schandau, Königstein, Sebnitz and many others, all of which should benefit from strong political representation.

In this sense, the new regional association is not only a step towards strengthening the Greens in the region, but also a commitment to honest dialogue with citizens and to a sustainable approach to the wonderful nature that surrounds Saxon Switzerland. The participation of the population is seen as the key to success in order to represent the region's interests well and to develop sensible solutions.

Saxon Switzerland will continue to be an attractive destination for those seeking relaxation in the future, while at the same time the focus is on protecting the unique landscape. What a wonderful task for the new regional association!
