Now new in Dippoldiswalde: Center for Children's Rights opened!

At a time when protecting our children is more of a focus than ever, the work of organizations like this German Child Protection Association KV Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains e.V. indispensable. With a wide range of offerings, the organization not only aims to support children, but also to support and raise awareness among parents. The programmed activities include the “Unicus” perception and movement course for babies, which takes place every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. There are also parent-child groups on Wednesdays and “happiness time” for children every Monday to Wednesday, which can be used between 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

These initiatives are part of a broader plan to support the social and emotional development of children in the region. A special highlight is the open offer “Playmobile in Polypark Dippoldiswalde”, which takes place every Thursday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Here children have the opportunity to let off steam and gain interactive experiences. Parents can also take part in special breakfasts on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month to exchange ideas and make new contacts.

A place for children's rights

The organization is going one step further with a new center for children's rights and participation. The center, supported by EU funding, aims to raise awareness of children's rights and promote a child-friendly society. Offers on topics such as child protection and child participation are provided here. It is a step in the right direction where children should not only be heard but actively involved in decisions.

Whether through events such as the sibling series or first aid courses for babies and toddlers - the variety of offers covers different needs. The upcoming events, including the children's city in the second week of the summer holidays and the children's flea market in September, are not only for the children, but also a great opportunity for parents to share their experiences.

Current challenges in child protection

While these positive initiatives are just a few, the current child endangerment figures show that there is still much to be done. According to a report by bpb In 2022, around 62,300 cases of child endangerment were identified across Germany - the highest level since 2012. Over 59% of these cases showed signs of neglect, while physical and psychological abuse is also worryingly common. Infants and small children under the age of three remain particularly vulnerable and in many cases have to be rescued from stressful living conditions.

The statistics of the Federal Statistical Office makes it clear that the danger to children often comes from different sides. Neglect, physical abuse, psychological abuse and sexual violence are the most common forms of vulnerability. These multiple burdens show how important preventative and supportive measures are.

The challenge remains to protect and support affected children while focusing on support services tailored to the needs of each family. The offerings of the Child Protection Association in Dippoldiswalde are a good example of this and offer a valuable approach to supporting both children and parents and protecting them in the long term.
