Kaufland is opening new branches in 2025: Where you can shop now!

The Kaufland Group is on an expansion spree in Germany and plans to open numerous new branches in various federal states in 2025. The company opened around 300 new locations worldwide in the 2024/25 financial year alone. In Germany, the Schwarz Group invested a whopping 3.3 billion euros in warehouses, data centers and branches. The construction of additional stores will be completed by the end of March 2026 and includes locations such as Göttingen-Weende, Haßloch and Mülheim-Kärlich. A total of around 0.4 billion euros is planned for new branches in the current financial year Echo24 reported.

Where will Kaufland open in 2025? The planned new openings include Bedburg, Ingelheim am Rhein, Jettingen, Karlsruhe, Ludwigshafen, Henstedt-Ulzburg, Heidenau, Landsberg-Peißen, and Wesel. The opening will begin in June 2025 in Brandenburg an der Havel and Heiligenhaus, where the former Real market will be revived. Kaufland is also planning to open new branches in Chemnitz and Essen, where these are former Globus stores. Another ten new openings are in the pipeline by the end of February 2026. This strategy is designed to gain a foothold in regions where there is currently no Kaufland offering Mercury as well as Ruhr24 confirm.

New openings and criteria for choosing a location

Kaufland plans to open up to 20 new stores in Germany over the next twelve months. In particular, the aim is for metropolitan areas with good transport connections and high catchment area potential. The targeted minimum requirements include cities with at least 10,000 inhabitants, a catchment area with 25,000 inhabitants, as well as property areas of at least 6,000 square meters and sales areas of 2,500 square meters or more. This planning security ensures that the new markets meet customer expectations and are easily accessible.

However, while Kaufland is expanding, we also have to report on some closures. In 2025, the branches in Dortmund-Mengede, Recklinghausen and Aalen, among others, will be closed. These closures are part of a large-scale strategy to optimize the branch network, which Kaufland declares to be isolated cases. The employees of the closing branches could, if possible, find employment in new markets.

Overall, Kaufland is very popular and remains actively looking for attractive locations. Let's look forward to the upcoming new openings and how the branch network will develop next year.
