Mister Meloni brings Hungarian melons to Kleinnaundorf!

What a summer for the fruit lovers in Kleinnaundorf! Thomas Käfer, better known as Mister Meloni, has once again revived the tastes of the GDR era. The local mayor and fruit expert imports delicious melons directly from Hungary to bring people the joy of eating. How Saxon reports that the popularity of its melons is high - the sales season started earlier this year, without the delivery problems that plague many other retailers.

Freshly harvested crops have been offered for the last two weeks. Käfer leads a dedicated team of 15 women and men who help customers purchase fresh fruit and vegetables. The Hungarian semi-trailer that stopped in Kleinnaundorf on Thursday is just one example of how Käfer ensures the freshness of its products. After unloading, the drivers began their return journey, while two push carts with dozens of melons remained behind.

Holiday flair from Hungary

The melons are no coincidence. Thomas Käfer, who has been traveling regularly to Hungary for over 30 years, knows about the high quality of the products there. How MDR reports, he organizes the sale without any middlemen. He ensures that his customers can bring holiday joy directly to Saxony - a culinary experience that many appreciate.

The sales events take place once a month between June and October in Kleinnaundorf and Schmiedeberg. To ensure that the popular products are not sold out, a pre-order is necessary. Käfer has made it its mission to sell high-quality goods and trade regionally. His customer Kerstin Kovacs plans to use the fresh ingredients to cook Letscho, a Hungarian dish that has grown close to her heart.

Quality and freshness come first

While Käfer's commitment to fresh fruit and vegetables is convincing, the standards according to which they are produced are also very high. The fruit and vegetable distribution GmbH, in which Käfer operates, has its fields along the Rhine to the hills of the southern Black Forest and benefits from fertile soils and a mild climate. OGS South Baden explains that the short turnaround time from harvest to consumer is crucial. Thanks to state-of-the-art cooling technology, the company manages to achieve less than 24 hours between harvest and retail delivery.

This means that freshness is maintained at all times right up to the end customer. Food safety and consumer protection are also a focus, with quality assurance systems such as IFS and GLOBAL GAP ensuring high quality and safe products.

Whether it's the Käfers popular melons or typical Hungarian dishes - the combination of regional trade and international flair ensures a touch of holiday feeling in everyday life. And so you not only enjoy melons, but also the joy of the summer months in Kleinnaundorf.
