Modernization completed: Langenfeld's Internet now faster and more stable!

Langenfeld, Deutschland - The Stadtwerke Langenfeld successfully completed their modernization of broadband technology. This technical renewal started in autumn 2024 and lasted about six months. During this time, important infrastructure components were brought up to date in all parts of the city. The aim of these extensive measures is to improve internet connections - both in terms of speed as well as on network stability and future security. The changeover brought some challenges such as short -term disorders and failures, but the municipal utilities thank their customers for patience and trust during this process. As a small thank you, 500 mobile power banks with the logo of the Stadtwerke in the Kunze customer center will be distributed free of charge, and that extends as long as stocks last.

The work carried out included the conversion of existing fiber optic nodes, the introduction of new mediation technology and a complete digital system change. In order to ensure a more reliable and faster internet connection, the aggregation and mediation technology was also replaced by modern, scalable hardware. These investments should not only increase network stability, but also enable better connectivity and provide enough IP addresses for the growing number of internet devices.

What does that mean for the users?

The good news for the end customers: The new technologies enable a better connection without having to make their own adjustments. Only users who have previously configured their routers should ensure that their access data is updated accordingly, since from late summer, if necessary, a stable connection is no longer guaranteed. Customer advisors can be reached at the usual opening times in the Kunze customer center to answer questions and offer support.

These modernizations of network technology are against the background that the expansion of the digital infrastructure in Germany is considered an outstanding public interest. The federal government plans to accelerate the expansion of fiber optic and mobile phone networks. Around 74 % of households are currently supplied with gigabit connections, and the nationwide 5G supply is now 92 %. The developments in Langenfeld are therefore part of a larger trend that was also heated by the challenges of Corona pandemic and other crises. Fast and stable internet remains crucial for public services, economy and thus also for the future of our cities.
