OBI trainees surprise the Pirna daycare center with creative wooden furniture!

At the cheerful “farbenspiel ” daycare center in Pirna-Copitz, a dedicated project made children’s eyes shine. Trainees and dual students from the OBI market in Pirna built hand-made wooden furniture and raised beds as part of a project week. The initiative, which took place from July 29th to August 2nd, 2024, not only represented a technical challenge, but also brought direct added value for the children at the daycare center. More than 520 trainees and high school graduates were actively involved and actively supported the beautification of the KITA area on Professor-Roßmäßler-Straße.

Under the professional guidance of experienced employees, robust benches, inviting tables and small raised wooden beds were created. The new furniture is not only practical and functional, it also symbolizes teamwork and commitment, which is crucial in training at OBI. Meike Gansert, the team leader for vocational training and dual studies, emphasizes the importance of responsibility and community. These values are firmly rooted in training, but can be particularly experienced through projects like this.

Insight into the project week

The project week at OBI has been an integral part of the training since its introduction during the Corona pandemic. Trainees work in various markets on social, creative and sustainable projects that not only benefit the community but also promote important social skills. This year, for example, school gardens were created, mud kitchens were built and children's homes were renovated. In such projects, trainees not only learn how to use tools and materials, but also how important teamwork and organization are in achieving a goal.

The importance of social learning should not be underestimated. Through group work, project weeks and feedback rounds, the trainees not only develop technical skills, but also communication and conflict resolution skills. Studies show that social learning methods make integration into teams easier and improve the overall working atmosphere. This means that training at OBI is not just about training for skilled workers, but also a school for life.

A contribution to the community

The new wooden furniture is now an integral part of everyday life at the “farbenspiel ” daycare center, which is run by ASB Königstein/Pirna and offers space for up to 155 children. The initiative, which was launched by OBI's energetic trainees, not only brings the children together to play and learn, but also the company's future specialists, who have created something meaningful together. Such projects are not only important for the personal development of the participants, but also for strengthening the sense of community.

Overall, the project impressively shows how the needs of the community can be met through cooperation and commitment. A big thank you to the trainees and the support from experienced colleagues - this is where practical training is practiced at its best.
