Tourism in Arendsee: Challenges and record numbers at the campsite!

Here in Arendsee, summer is slowly coming to an end, but the balance of tourist numbers is more complicated than the weather itself. Bad weather has really affected tourism this year, as MDR reports. The start of the season was bumpy: the lido could not open right from the start because construction work on the former lake stand was still in full swing. After the construction work was completed, the summer feeling was abruptly thwarted by storms. This set alarm bells ringing for Claudia Schulz, Arendsee's head of tourism.

But not everything goes against the grain. Claudia Schulz reported on the current interim tourism balance in the Economic Committee. In the past few weeks, campsites in the region have celebrated astonishing records. Since the beginning of the year, almost 68,000 euros have been collected - a real jump compared to the 46,000 euros of the previous year. The marketing during the off-season has also paid off, and more and more repeat guests are securing their place for the next year upon departure. AZ-Online mentions the positive feedback from guests who particularly appreciate the low water in the bank area.

A highlight: The “Queen Arendsee”

The “Queen Arendsee” has already provided many services this season. According to the current balance sheet, there were many regular trips and around 50 charter trips. The GmbH plans to expand the business with the ship and has submitted an official request to the country. The answer was promising, provided that the resting window for the birds was respected. However, there are challenges: high maintenance and repair costs require higher utilization of the ship. MDR emphasizes that additional income should be generated during the pre-Christmas period to cover costs.

The municipality wants to increase its long-term attractiveness through extensive investments in the region's tourism, including the expansion of the climbing park and the construction of a new playground. Schulz emphasizes the goal of using the campsite all year round, although this requires further measures to make the area winter-proof. To this end, measures have already been taken to adapt the price list and improve online booking.

Camping is trendy

It can be clearly stated that camping holidays are becoming increasingly popular. In 2023, there were around 42.3 million overnight stays on campsites in Germany, which corresponds to an increase of 5.2% compared to 2022. Destatis informs about a slightly growing trend towards camping, which makes Lake Arendsee all the more interesting. Demand in particular has increased not only domestically but also internationally.

However, the campsite fees have not stood still. In 2023, prices increased by approximately 6.6% compared to the previous year. So if you love nature and the flexibility of camping, you should start planning quickly. After all, the Arendsee has a lot to offer in its tranquil surroundings, even if the weather doesn't always cooperate.
