Storm chaos in Vogtland: heavy rain leads to cellar flooding and damage!

Yesterday, on June 15, 2025, a violent storm hit the Vogtland and Zwickau and caused a lot of excitement in the region. Within just three hours, the control centers were confronted with 77 missions as heavy rain and gusts of wind hit the landscape mercilessly. These forces of nature caused cellars to overflow, streets to flood and trees to be uprooted. Lightning strikes also occurred and contributed to the dramatic situation. The weather front moved across the Vogtland around 5 p.m. and local reports confirm that streams overflowed their banks, causing further flooding. Motorists had great difficulty getting around safely in this heavy rain. In Hartha, the fire department was also called upon to remove a fallen tree from a car. The forecasts indicated serious further disruptions in the weather. The DWD warned of heavy rain with up to 40 liters per square meter in a short period of time as well as possible hail and gusts of up to 100 km/h. In Vogtland alone, in combination with the existing high temperatures of up to 33 degrees Celsius, an approaching thunderstorm was classified as dangerous. The weather forecast in the Erzgebirgskreis and Chemnitz was also anything but promising, as huge storm movements were imminent, which could further cloud the picture of the region [...] DWD.
